Growth Responses of Chromium (vi) Tolerant Bacteria to Different Concentrations of Chromium

چکیده
Chromium (vi) – tolerant bacterial strains, namely, Bacillus sp., Pseudomonas sp., Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus sp. were isolated from the oxidation ditch of a sewage treatment plant. All the isolates tolerated high concentrations of up to 500 μg/ml chromium (vi) in nutrient broth. The growth responses of the bacterial isolates to different concentrations of chromium (vi) were carried out in this study. The responses of the bacteria were dependent on time of incubation and chromium (vi) concentration. The analysis of the results showed that there was significant difference (P ˂ 0.05) in the growth of the isolates at different concentrations of hexavalent chromium. As the concentration of chromium increased, the growth of the bacterial isolates decreased. The growth of the isolates was slightly inhibited at hexavalent chromium concentration of 200 μg/ml and highly inhibited at 500 μg/ml when compared to other lower concentrations such as 50, 100 and 150 μg/ml. The present study revealed the capacity of the bacterial isolates to grow at different concentrations of Cr (vi) and such bacteria can be used to remove Cr (vi) from the

Growth Improvements of Sunflower Seedlings by Cr(VI)-Resistant Bacteria
In the present study, three chromium resistant bacterial strains (CrT-1, CrT-2, CrT-3) which could resist veryhigh concentration of K2CrO4 (up to 40 mg ml-1 on nutrient agar plates and 10 mg ml-1 in acetate-minimalmedium) were used to inoculate the sunflower seeds both as control and under chromium stress. Cr(VI)caused severe reduction in different growth parameters (seedling ...
متن کاملEffect of citric acid on antioxidant activity of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) under chromium stress
Chromium-VI would impose detrimental effects morphological, physiological, and metabolic in plants. This study aimed to research the impact of citric acid (0, 2.5 and 5 mM), on different the morphological and physiological characteristics of garden cress exposed to chromium-VI stress (0, 1, and 10 mM). Results showed that some growth parameters, chlorophyll, carotenoids, and DPPH activity decre...
متن کاملResponses of endogenous proline in rice seedlings under chromium exposure
Hydroponic experiments were performed to exam the dynamic change of endogenous proline in rice seedlings exposed to potassium chromate chromium (VI) or chromium nitrate chromium (III). Although accumulation of both chromium species in rice seedlings was obvious, more chromium was detected in plant tissues of rice seedlings exposed to chromium (III) than those in chromium (VI), majority being in...
متن کاملCharacterization of chromium remediating bacterium Bacillus subtilis isolated from electroplating effluent
Chromium, especially chromium (VI), is the main pollutant of the tannery and electroplating industries. Cr (VI) is said to be a hazardous pollutant as it is highly toxic, mutagenic as well a carcinogen. Cr (VI) is mobile as it is soluble in nature. In our present study, indigenous bacteria that are tolerant to high concentrations of Cr (VI) were isolated from chromium contaminated electroplatin...
متن کاملGrowth and accumulation responses of Populus nigra L. exposed to hexavalent chromium excess
Phytoremediation of heavy metals is employed as a technological approach for a non-destructive remediation of contaminated soils. One of the most recently studied tree species used in phytoremediation applications are poplars. In this study, the one-year old rooted seedlings of Populus nigra L. used to decontaminate hexavalent chromium-contaminated soils. Five treatments of Cr (VI) supply (were...
